Relish This: Remarkable Room (7.29)

Our newest addition to Design Relish, “Remarkable Room,” will showcase chic spaces on a weekly basis and allow us to share even more outstanding examples of savvy design throughout the St. Louis area. You might have seen some of these rooms before in a past issue of the magazine, but don’t worry – we’ll be sure to surprise you with a few never-before-seen stunners, too!

____________________________________________________________

Our first Remarkable Room is a sophisticated space that was designed with the homeowners’ college-aged daughter in mind. We love its fun yet sophisticated style. The vibrant fuchsia accent wall and chartreuse furnishings provide visual interest and contrast against the dramatic black and white elements. What do you like about this space?

Style Scoop: Wallpaper Revival

With countless new styles and innovations in its design, wallpaper is making a beautiful comeback. According to the Wallcoverings Association, several factors have contributed to its rebirth, including advances in digital technology and the availability of eco-friendly choices.

A movement away from minimalist interiors has allowed homeowners to explore color and texture on their walls for a more decorative, visually interesting look. Wallpaper is one of the best (and easiest!) ways to spruce up a room and give it an entirely different look. Make a design statement with these new cool, fresh patterns that are sure to revitalize your spaces.

Advances in digital imaging and printing have introduced a new perspective into the traditional field of wallcoverings, bringing new life to the designs that are available today. In addition, many new wallpapers are made with 100 percent natural fibers and low- or no-VOC, water-based inks, so they are as earth-friendly as they are lovely. York Wallcoverings’ CLD Pure Collection features breathable, mold-resistant and non-woven varieties and are created with natural fibers that are harvested from managed forests and synthetic fibers used  in tea bags and coffee filters.

Ring in the New Year with a new look

It's simple! Just follow these small steps to style.

As you and your family kick off 2010, remember to include your home in your New Year’s resolutions. Whether you’re looking to install a new system of organization or rejuvenate outdated décor, updating your home can be a refreshing start to a new year.

Keep in mind that sometimes even the smallest of changes can make a large impact when it comes to home design and décor – such as enlivening a room with a new paint color or rearranging your existing furniture. If your neutral wall colors are looking tired, try using bolder colors, such as a high-energy yellow or an exotic raspberry – starting with an accent wall. The beauty of updating your rooms with new paint is that it’s relatively inexpensive and reversible.

Rearranging your existing furniture is another simple way to give your home a fresh new look. A few small shifts can make a big difference while still retaining the overall style of a room. More noticeable modifications, however, such as removing bulky pieces of furniture to change the flow of foot traffic, can have a dramatic effect and completely alter the aesthetics of a space. (Hint: Attach sliding pads to the bottom of larger pieces of furniture for quick and easy rearranging.)

Once you’ve painted walls and rearranged furniture, incorporating a few new design elements – such as a stunning bowl on a dining room table or a new duvet in a bedroom suite – will help enliven your living spaces. Best of all, these smaller changes will update your home without equaling the time commitment or cost of a full-scale renovation.
