Around Town: Tour Homes and Gardens in Historic Lafayette Square

Experience the vibrancy of our city’s oldest historic district this weekend, June 5-6, at the 41st Annual Lafayette Square Home & Garden Spring Tour, themed “City Life in Bloom.” Spanning one square mile and tucked into the heart of St. Louis, Lafayette Square is home to some of the city’s richest examples of architecture, as well as charming restaurants, shops and one of the first parks west of the Mississippi River. Victorian mansions, townhouses, row houses, warehouse style lofts, apartments and brand-new construction homes make up the remarkable residences that are located in Lafayette Square.

Saturday and Sunday’s tours will feature more than a dozen homes and gardens throughout the unique area, and hundreds of Lafayette Square residents will be on hand to greet tour guests and answer questions. This tour is self-guided, and while all of the homes are within walking distance of one another, trolley rides will also be available. The tour begins at the corner of Lafayette and Mississippi, where visitors will receive tour books and maps. Antique booths and entertainment – including Vintage Base Ball and an evening outdoor concert in the park – will add to the weekend’s fun.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on tour weekend. Group sales of 20 or more are $12. Children under 12 who are accompanied by an adult are free. Call 314-772-5724 to purchase tickets using Visa or Mastercard, or go to www.lafayettesquare.org to buy tickets through PayPal. All proceeds benefit the Lafayette Square Restoration Committee’s efforts to restore the buildings and public spaces of Lafayette Square.
