Thank You Dr. Raven at the Missouri Botanical Garden
Dr. Peter H. Raven, Missouri Botanical Garden president since 1971, will retire on September 1. He will remain active at the Garden as a consultant through 2014. Please join us in celebrating the man who has led the Garden through nearly four decades of unparalleled accomplishments. Remarks at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and remarks will be made by Mayor Francis Slay, County Executive Charlie Dooley and Arnold Donald, chair of the Garden’s Board of Trustees. To recognize Dr. Raven’s service to the Garden, a limited number of Metasequoia glyptostroboides ‘Raven’ Shaw’s Legacy® Dawn Redwoods will be available for purchase. Pesto Festo at Greenscape Gardens
Learn how to make pesto in a fun atmosphere! Bring an ingredient to use for preparing pesto, and take home a free jar! The ingredients needed are: basil, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, pine nuts or walnuts, and garlic. This event will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. at Greenscape Gardens, 2832 Barrett Station Rd. Wine Tasting at Balaban’s Wine Cellar & Tapas Bar
Jeff Cobb of Pinnacle Imports will lead you through a wine tasting adventure, which will include samplings of the following: 2008 Abbazia di Novacella Kerner, Alto Adige, Italy; 2009 Terredora Falanghina, Campania, Italy; 2008 Jean Marc Burgaud Beaujolais Villages Chateau du Thulon; 2007 Usseglio Panorama, Rhone Valley, France. Henry Shaw Cactus Society Show & Sale at Missouri Botanical Garden
Choose from a wide array of cacti and succulents shown and sold by the area’s top growers. Cactus Society members will give demonstrations and plant care advice. 4th Annual Peach Festival at Pere Marquette Lodge in Grafton, Illinois

Orchid Society of Greater St. Louis Auction at Missouri Botanical Garden
New cultivars and old favorites are sold by the area’s top growers, who are on hand to give plant care advice and share information about their organization.
